A new short-term adult Sunday School class, Why now, and What we do now: Human Sexuality and the United Methodist Church, starts Sunday, Jan. 13. The class is designed to help us, as a congregation, better understand why this matters to Travis Park UMC and our siblings, as the UMC faces landmark decisions on human sexuality at the Called General Conference, Feb. 23-26, in St. Louis, Missouri.
The new class will begin by sharing basic information on the history and structure of The United Methodist Church, and how we got where we are since language of “incompatibility” was first added to the UMC Book of Discipline in 1972.
Moreover, the Class will help as our congregation discerns how we can be in advocacy for LGBTQ people leading up to the Called General Conference, and beyond. We prayerfully seek Travis Park’s own “way forward” as we continue our commitment as a reconciling congregation that welcomes and affirms all people.
