Travis Park United Methodist Church:
A Beacon of Hospitality and Hope.
Over 178 years ago, faithful visionaries planted a church in the heart of San Antonio. They could not have known their dream would grow into the iconic Travis Park United Methodist Church. They could not have known the congregation they were planting would plant other congregations, exponentially expanding mission and ministry within and beyond their community. They could not have known the hundreds of thousands who would receive food, comfort, shelter, welcome, and sanctuary within the walls of the not yet constructed facility. They could not have known, but they planted, and God continues to bless the fields they planted in faith, most abundantly.
Today, Travis Park UMC remains a beacon of hope and hospitality within and beyond our community. We are a modern congregation working out of our historic facility. As a faith community, we remain committed to faith formation, missional service, public theology, and restorative justice as we share the Good News; God’s love is for ALL people – and all means all.
Now, it is our turn to plant for the future. Our campus is well worn. Our facility scars and broken places are markers of generational service to as many as we could manage, and more. The work is not finished. Others will come. Today, our call is to renew and equip our facility for continued service to God and neighbor. The world remains our parish.

Renew Our Sacred Refuge
Travis Park United Methodist Church serves as a cornerstone within our Conference and the entire downtown community. The Sanctuary has witnessed countless ordinations, worship services, weddings, baptisms, concerts, and gatherings, while providing a sacred refuge for recovery, belonging, and spiritual growth. A roof collapse and flooding in 2019, in addition to many years of wear and tear have taken its toll on our building. Today, significant restoration is needed to ensure we remain a safe, welcoming, and inspiring place for those who gather now, and all who are yet to come.
A Comprehensive Scope of Work
Phase I restoration will address deferred maintenance throughout our facility. This comprehensive project includes interior Sanctuary surface restoration, upgrading mechanical and HVAC, exterior restoration of the limestone façade, an upgraded A/V system, basement Fellowship Hall restoration, and completely renovated bathrooms on all levels. Plans also include a roof replacement for the Sanctuary, McNees Hall, and Children’s & Educational Buildings, as well as weatherproofing the walls and windows.
A Hub of Hospitality for ALL
At Travis Park United Methodist Church, our mission extends far beyond Sunday worship. We are deeply committed to addressing the needs of the unhoused and vulnerable populations in downtown San Antonio. Every week, our doors open wide to offer hot meals, clothing, and essential services to those in need. Our team of volunteers work tirelessly to provide physical necessities, with compassionate support and a sense of belonging. Additionally, our building shelters the unhoused during extreme weather conditions. Your contribution to the Capital Campaign directly supports the renovation of the basement Fellowship Hall and bathrooms where we provide these vital services, ensuring that we can continue to offer the best hospitality to all those who enter.
How You Can Make a Difference

We cannot know how it is God will bless our giving, the number of lives to be touched, or the way in which restoration and healing will happen. But we do know that whatever we offer in faith will be as it was for those who first planted, and we can trust God with the yield. We can trust those who are coming to continue the good work. God will see to the Harvest.
