Georgia Dean Gossom Stone
February 27, 1939 – January 10, 2025

Georgia Dean (Gossom) Stone was born on February 27, 1939, to Woodrow Wilson Gossom, Sr., and Georgia F. Gossom. At the time of her passing, worshipers gathered in her apartment were singing Angels We Have Heard on High, an apparent sign she received her wings and is an angel amongst us.

Georgia was born and raised in St. Louis County, Missouri. The family then moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, when she was in her teens. Soon, Georgia met the Rev. James George Stone (Jim), whom she married on March 2, 1957. She also graduated from Wichita Falls High School that same year.

Georgia gracefully took on the role of “minister’s wife” early in Jim’s ministry while also being a homemaker and raising four children. While living in Littleton, Colorado, Georgia worked as a church secretary at St. James Presbyterian Church. After earning a  B.S. in Business Administration from the Metropolitan State College of Denver, Georgia became a Church Business Administrator. When serving as the Education Director at Travis Park UMC, Georgia accepted a call to enter the ministry as clergy. Georgia completed her theological studies at SMU Perkins School of Theology  and was ordained in 1989 as a full-time local pastor of the Southwest Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. Georgia’s first appointment was to McKinley Avenue UMC, in San Antonio, Texas, from 1989 to 1996. Georgia served five other appointments, during which time she was ordained an Elder in 2002, after receiving her Masters in Divinity. Georgia retired from full time ministry in 2005.

Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, James George Stone, and her son Lawrence Emerson Stone. Georgia is survived by her sons, David Carroll Stone (Beth Smith) of San Antonio, Texas; Mark Dawson Stone (Theresa) of Englewood, Colorado; daughter, Deana Carolyn Boggess, (Bill) of Cedar Park, Texas; daughter-in-law Carol Stone of Williamsburg, Virginia; grandchildren, Bethany Alcauter, Sarah Weaver and Katie Greever; and great grandchildren, Jack Sapir, Chloe Neuman, Tolkien Weaver, Jovita Alcauter, Aspen Greever, and Lainey Greever.

Throughout her entire life, Georgia impacted the lives of many people as she loved them, prayed with them, counseled them, and ministered to them. Georgia believed God loves every individual and through her ministry she  assured all she encountered of God’s love for them. Georgia also reminded us of God’s commandment to love one another.

“He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8
