Greetings from the Travis Park Church Council. I hope you are doing well during these days of physical distancing. While some parts of the Texas economy and some churches are re-opening, we are taking a more deliberate approach to ensure the safety of our diverse congregation. Earlier this week Valerie convened the Open Doors Task Force, made up of several folks from the congregation, to help discern what re-opening the church doors for worship, outreach, and small groups will look like when the time comes. My goal in seeking the help of this Task Force is to make recommendations to the Council on HOW best to re-open. They are working on a congregational survey that you should receive in the next week or so. The Council will use the information from the survey and input from the Task Force to help guide our consideration in the weeks to determine WHEN to re-open. I invite you to view this message from Bishop Robert Schnase who, I think, correctly frames our discussion.
In the meantime, I encourage you to be in touch with the TPC congregation. I hope you have enjoyed worshiping virtually these last few weeks. I commend the staff, volunteers, and clergy for their creativity and skill in making putting these services together. I have been inspired by the dedication and technical capabilities that have been on display. If you are able to participate by teleconference, I encourage you to join the Sunday School class discussion following virtual worship at 9:45 am on Sunday mornings, the Vespers service at 7:30 pm on Thursday evenings, or start your own video connection with your own Sunday School class or small group.
