Meet Our New Pastor, Rev. Cynthia Engstrom

Welcome to our new Pastor!
The Rio Texas Conference Bishop and Cabinet worked prayerfully with their hearts and heads to seek out a pastor for Travis Park Church. Our new pastor is Rev. Cynthia Engstrom, who has a heart for the ministries of Travis Park Church. Rev. Cynthia will join us in worship on June 26th!

Greetings Travis Park Church,

I look forward to partnering with you in ministry. For now, as I read about your public life on social media, I am inspired by your embodied vision ofย unconditional love and justice in action. Thank you for your witness of Good News for all people.

As for me, I’m a mom of two beautiful young adult children. My daughter, Sarah, is in nursing school. My son, Neil, works in Austin and will soon marry his life-partner, Emily. I am married for twenty-three years to the love of my life, John, who will be completing his life journey soon. He is late-stage Lewy Body Dementia and in hospice care at home.

Professionally, I’m second career clergy. My M Div. was completed at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary (APTS) in Austin. I followed immediately with a Master of Art in Religion, concentration in Theological Ethics at the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest. I am now in the final stages of a Doctor of Ministry Degree at APTS. My concentration is Christian Spirituality and my research centers on community mobilization for the sake of transformation and systemic change.

At the Conference level, I Chair the Transforming Community Vision Team (TCVT) and serve as a member of the Transforming Communities Network (TCN) Design and Development Team, which trains congregational/community cohorts to be facilitators of community change. My work with the Vision Team places me at the Rio Texas Uniting Table. I serve also on the Methodist Healthcare Ministry (MHM) Board which is transitioning to an augmented focus on social determinates of health, such as poverty.

There are stories to share, and I look forward to learning more about your work and ministry. Even more, I look forward to our partnership in ministry very soon.

Shalom
Cynthia Engstrom
