New Beginnings at Travis Park Church
The butterfly has long been a favorite symbol in my family representing new beginnings, hope and the promise of Christ’s love. Sometimes a new beginning was not of my choosing, but along the path I realized the change was as it should be. I write today on behalf of the Travis Park Church Leadership Board to tell you about “New Beginnings” that are happening in our church home. Some of the New Beginnings are revival of past events or programs, while others are brand new endeavors.
A new endeavor is the quarterly Town Hall Meetings, held on the fifth Sunday of the month, with the first meeting on October 30 at 11 am. The purpose of the meeting is to gather in person and ask questions about anything on your mind related to Travis Park Church. Leadership Board will have specific information that we consider of interest like the status of the mission of the church; how the mission is coming alive; Travis Park Church finances; how we need you; the status of our building; and Travis Park Church’s Guiding Principles established by the Leadership Board. Consider the Town Hall Meeting to be a family meeting to catch up with one another! I hope you plan to attend.
You might have noticed Hospitality traditions that have been improved, that being the Hospitality Station and the Fellowship Table after worship in McNees Hall. Thanks to Joe Clark, the Hospitality Station was spruced up and is staffed weekly by those who want to greet all with love, a smile and pertinent church information. The Fellowship Table is staffed by designated groups every week and snacks and drinks are available to all as you visit with one another before moving on the Sunday School classes or other meetings. The energy in McNees Hall is a welcome addition after the glorious church services we are experiencing. Stop by for snacks and drinks after worship.
Other activities that remain a part of New Beginnings are cooking, serving and greeting hungry people with a loving smile in the basement with Café Corazon; making Puente Pals on the third Sunday of the month to allow use of your creative talents for a child traveling through Texas to another destination; new Sunday School classes and Sunday afternoon book study led by Pastor Cynthia.
My words only cover a few of the New Beginnings at Travis Park Church, as all of the ministries of Travis Park Church, along with the tedious work of running the church are underway with gusto! This is a beautiful time in the life of our church home.
Mark your calendars for upcoming events:
Sunday, Oct. 9 Coming Out Sunday;
Sunday, Oct. 30 Town Hall Meeting;
Sunday, Nov. 6 Ministry Fair;
Sunday, Nov. 20 Transgender Day of Remembrance;
Saturday, Dec. 10 District Charge Conference at La Trinidad UMC, 2pm
Every month a member of the Leadership Board will provide a message to those who read the newsletter. If you want to discuss any church matter, please Email Me. Leadership Board Meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of most months and are open to all.
Blessings, grace and peace,
