Social Justice Sunday School Class: NEW Trans Justice Study

New Study Begins Sunday, April 11th 11:00 am

Transforming: The Bible and the Lives of Transgender Christians by Austen Hartke

You can buy the book here.

Transforming: The Bible and the Lives of Transgender Christians provides access into an underrepresented and misunderstood community and will change the way readers think about transgender people, faith, and the future of Christianity. By introducing transgender issues and language and providing stories of both biblical characters and real-life narratives from transgender Christians living today, Hartke helps readers visualize a more inclusive Christianity, equipping them with the confidence and tools to change both the church and the world.

Email Kathleen or find the group on Realm to get connected.

Previous Studies:

January – March 2021: The Color of Compromise: The Truth about the American Church’s Complicity in Racism” by Jemar Tisby. We encourage you to pick up a copy from your local bookstore, but you can find it online here

2020: The Cross and the Lynching Tree by Pastor James H. Cone
The author writes, “The cross has been transformed into a harmless, non-offensive ornament that Christians wear around their necks. Rather than reminding us of the “cost of discipleship,” it has become a form of “cheap grace,” an easy way to salvation that doesn’t force us to confront the power of Christ’s message and mission. Until we can see the cross and the lynching tree together, until we can identify Christ with a “re-crucified” black body hanging from a lynching tree, there can be no genuine understanding of Christian identity in America, and no deliverance from the brutal legacy of slavery and white supremacy.”
